URGENT - CORRECTION: Italian 'Pension' Letters NOT Fraudulent
|
Published on April 23, 2007
Last week, we told you to be on the lookout for letters from an Italian financial institution that asked customers for account information. We thought the letter was fraudulent, but it turns out the letter is valid after all.
The letters are sent each month by a financial institution called Istituto Centrale delle Banche Popolari (ICBP) to Italian pensioners living in the U.S. The customers must submit information about their U.S. bank accounts to have their pension payments properly deposited.
The toll-free number listed on the letters is incorrect, so if a customer asks for help submitting the required account information (click here to see a sample completed by a customer), please ask them to call ICBP at 39 04 3274 4252 for help. Please note, this is an Italian number, so customers will incur international long-distance charges for the call.
We apologize for this error, and will let you know through the News Source if any additional information on these letters becomes available.
Hope this helps,
Owen Loft
